Billboard Music Awards: Best and Worst Dressed

May 20, 2013 By: fohblogcreative Category: Award Shows, Celebrity Style, Fashion & Beauty, Music

Last night the Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. As expected the award show blue carpet brought out the very best from the attendees–and the very worst. Our top picks for best-dressed both took their looks out-of-the-box and straight to shiny. See our favorites, below!

Taylor Swift moves away from her safety zone (neutral, sparkling column gowns) and into electric blue glitz! Looking like a real-life doll, Taylor’s bold pink lip, bump-it ‘do and ice-skater mesh all work together–creating one our favorite looks of the night.

Unexpectedly, the best-dressed last night was Miley Cyrus. On paper a sparkling-harlequin-crochet jumpsuit doesn’t work, but Balmain managed to make one that’s incredibly stunning and Miley pulls it off perfectly. Also, her lipstick is inspiring major envy around the office.

Unfortunately not all the risk-takers last night were able to enjoy the successes of Swift and Cyrus. Somebody named Z LaLa wore a tinfoil explosion–though we will say her hair looked amazing.

Nayer wore a one-piece hooded number, brought her dog and forgot her shirt. (It happens to the best of us.) And finally we finish with Jenny McCarthy who apparently takes the less-is-more approach when dressing. Who had your favorite look of the night and who fell flat? Tell us in the comments below!

Punk Couture: The 2013 Met Gala Ball

May 07, 2013 By: fohblogcreative Category: Uncategorized

We probably don’t need to tell you, but last night was one of the biggest fashion event of the year–the Metropolitan Gala, aka the “Met Ball,” which launches the Metropolitan Museum’s annual Costume Institute exhibit.

We here at Frederick’s love our red carpet events right here in Hollywood, but we take an exception with the Met Ball, because it’s just so fah-bulous and so New York City. And last night’s fashion extravaganza went completely over the top with its theme of “Punk: Chaos to Couture.” It was fascinating to see how the style-setting stars glammed it up and punked out at the same time.

This year’s honorary host was none other than Mrs. Carter! Beyoncé commanded the red carpet in a blazing hot gown and boots by Givenchy.

The reigning style star of the evening was Sarah Jessica Parker, who IMHO, made fashion history with her Giles Deacon dress and “mohawk” headdress by Philip Treacy. No one rocks an outrageous hat quite like Ms. SJP. This is what fashion icons are made of–take note.

Some glamour girls  interpreted “punk” as swathing themselves in black and looking miserable–decidedly less than glamorous. Witness Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler, Jessica Biel in Giambattista Valli and a newly-platinum Anne Hathaway in Valentino.

Punk = lots of black + sad face.

While some fashionistas took the night’s theme to the opposite end of the spectrum, going for head-to-toe white, an effect which left us feeling…a little spooked.

Rita Ora, Rooney Mara and Nicole Ritchie going ghostly on the Met red carpet.

But there were quite a few winners on our Best Dressed list for the night. These trailblazers understood the evening’s punk rock theme, but still kept it high-fashion and fabulous. Solange Knowles KILLED IT in a blue, slit-up-to-there number, while Emma Watson flaunted what could be our favorite cutout gown ever (by Prabal Garung). Both Christina Ricci and Kirsten Dunst were in rare fashion form–Ricci in a plaid Vivienne Westwood ball gown (could anything be more punk?) and Kiki in a feathered, deep-V dress by Rodarte. Coco Rocha and Jessica Alba also got top honors in stunners by Emanuel Ungaro and Tory Burch, respectively.

And no Met Gala would be complete without fashion fixtures Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, who went vintage for the night–Ashley in Dior and Mary-Kate in Chanel.

We absolutely loved how bright and happy the Empress of the Met Ball, Anna Wintour, looked at the evening’s festivities. But she always does when she has her beautiful daughter, Bee Schaffer, on her arm. Donning dresses as fresh as a spring garden while the rest of the crowd went edgy and downtown–well, this gets our vote as the most punk rock move of the night.

But our favorite shot had to be this one. Boy, that Jennifer Lawrence sure does know how rock a photo op! This is why she’s a star, people.
