Hits & Misses On The Oscar Red Carpet

February 26, 2013 By: fohblogcreative Category: Award Shows, Celebrity Style, Fashion & Beauty, Uncategorized

Last night was the culmination of awards season–and while we can’t say it was the most awe-inspiring Academy Awards we’ve ever seen, we still loved it in all of its tiered, shiny and strangely-placed-darts glory. We watched, we winced, we cheered and we fell in love with look after look.

Whether it was styled in ’20s art deco fashion or goddess-like columns, metallic shone brightly last night. From Naomi Watts in futuristic-Hollywood glam (Armani Privé) to Nicole Kidman’s cesarean-chic sequins (sorry, L’Wren Scott), those who chose to wear it did so with varying degrees of success.

Halle Berry was incredible in Versace, and Jennifer Hudson got everything absolutely right in a long-sleeved Roberto Cavalli.

Taking styling cues from Chris de Burgh–not always a great idea. However last night’s ladies in red looked incredible–with Jennifer Anniston finally moving away from body-hugging silhouettes and into a sweeping Valentino (though we wish she would’ve had an hairstyle to match–the long, tousled hair made it look like she got ready in the limo). Olivia Munn looked incredible in a deep red Marchesa gown. And can we all just take a moment to appreciate that Sally Field is 66 and absolutely killing it in her Valentino?

Keeping the basics alive seemed to be a sub-theme of last night. Blue (in various shades of cobalt, navy and midnight) and white were the two other big color trends on the red-carpet. Quevenzhané Wallis is stunning, age appropriate and her dog purse is beyond adorable. Helen Hunt’s H&M dress looks exactly like an H&M dress and though Reese Witherspoon was going for a Veronica Lake look, she missed it by a large margin thanks to an unflattering neckline.

Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron (both in Dior Haute Cotoure) are a tie for best-dressed. Though the two gowns are on opposite ends of the sartorial spectrum, the clean lines, elegant silhouettes and impeccable styling make each look pop. Meanwhile, Queen Latifah was downright regal in Badgley Mischka. Who was your best-dressed of the night? Leave your picks in the comments, below!

Awards Season: Golden Globes Round-Up!

January 14, 2013 By: fohblogcreative Category: Award Shows, Celebrity Style, Fashion & Beauty, Uncategorized

We had high expectations for last night and not just because comedy gold duo Tina Fey & Amy Poehler were hosting. The Golden Globes set the bar for award season fashion and beauty trends–but we needn’t have worried, because Hollywood didn’t disappoint!

From retro-flair to captivating crimson, the stars shone in all their glory. Celebs braved the freezing temperatures (or as John Hamm pointed out, “It’s only 50 degrees.”) to show off swoon-worthy silhouettes, daring hair and to-die-for makeup. Here are the three big trends we were loving from last night’s red-carpet:

Naomi Watts, Amy Adams and Michelle Dockery radiated ultra-glamorous, old Hollywood gowns and hair. Personally, we can’t get enough of the neo-noir look–the drama and romance it evokes are incomparable. In three distinct color palettes and cuts, we’re hoping the versatility displayed means more actresses will opt for this on Oscar night! Hands-down our favorite look from the Globes.

From modern columns to classic ball gowns, crimson made a spectacular splash! Claire Danes, Zooey Deschanel and Jennifer Lawrence all pulled off the incredible statement-making hue as only mega-famous, ultra-poised stars can do. Each went in a different direction with makeup–Claire Danes trying out a smokey Eye, Zooey staying with her ’60s chanteuse eyeliner and Jennifer Lawrence going for gold with a dark eye and lip. We can’t wait to try this color trend on our next night out!

Call it the Angelina Effect or simply the return of the leg slit–the Golden Globe’s hottest trend was sky-high! Eva Longoria went with a dramatic long-sleeved gown, while Halle Berry and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley opted for interesting necklines to offset the slit. Love it or hate it, you can’t argue that this isn’t an option for wallflowers. These ladies wore these see-and-be-seen dresses with fierce attitude.

What’s happened to red-carpet glamour?

December 17, 2012 By: fohblogcreative Category: Celebrity Style, Fashion & Beauty, Uncategorized

The On the Road premier happened last Friday, and to say that the red carpet was underwhelming would be…well, generous. Those of us in the office who care about this sort of thing (um, everyone) had high hopes for L.A.-designer-darling Kirsten Dunst and her morose co-star, K-Stew. Unfortunately , what we expected and what we received were two very different beasts.  Jezebel called them “the sloppy new bohemians”, and even compared their outfits to those on Wings and Melrose Place. Ouch!

We’re left wondering if perhaps Hollywood’s youth are simply more inclined to be casual and if so, where does it stop? Used to be, movie premieres were big occasions…and call us naive, but we think they still are! Is this what we have to look forward to? Are the elegant gowns of old kaput for the younger set–unless they’re at the Oscars? We hope not! And before you think we’re against a little casual glamour on the carpet–people were wearing fishnets with open-toed shoes…which has never been okay. Ever. See a breakdown by outfit below, plus shop the looks we put together for each actress!

Kristen Stewart has been wearing progressively less clothing to each movie premiere she attends. With her client’s penchant for sheer, we’d have thought her stylist could come up with something more attractive, less wrinkled and with better fitting undergarments. Then again, perhaps not. Either way, we think K-Stew could take it up a notch with a sheer illusion, like our Long Sleeve Lace Body-Con Dress. She’s worn this silhouette before and with the high (albeit messy ponytail) that she’s rocking, it would look incredible. We liked the idea of a contrast shoe, though the red style we’re suggesting here probably comes in her size. The neon heels she’s wearing apparently did not.

After much discussion, many theories, wild speculations and confusion, we can confidently say we have absolutely no idea what is happening in the picture above. We do know that Kirsten is wearing fishnets…sandals…and a large Dynasty-era suit jacket dress. But, why? We don’t know. That being said, Kirsten should toss that dress. Maybe a nice tuxedo dress dress would have been a better choice? Like the one shown here? Pair it with these shoes, and we’ll all feel so much better. Trust us.

A quick Google search told us that Emily Meade is an up-and-coming-starlet who has a very respectable list of credits to her name. What it doesn’t say is that she has been desperately nostalgic for the late ’90s. Because there is simply no other explanation. We’ve always liked women wearing pants on the red carpet–just not high-waisted, tapered-yet-strangely billowing printed ones. A crisp tuxedo-inspired blazeredgy trousers and killer heels would have sufficed.

What do you think of their outfits? Is Hollywood glamour becoming a thing of the past?
