A Tribute to Helmut Newton
If you are searching for something to do this week and are in the Los Angeles area, you must head to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. There you will find “Three Boys From Pasadena: A Tribute to Helmut Newton,” a traveling exhibition curated by the photographer’s widow, June Newton.

Helmut Newton first became famous as a fashion photographer, embracing the nude form and later for bringing fetishistic imagery to modern photography. He spent much time at the Chateau Marmont, using the laundry and bungalows as backdrops for his domestic nudes. Helmut became known as “the man who changed the way fashion was captured” and in the late ’70s, took three young photographers under his wing and taught them everything he knew.

His influence is visible in their work, though each developed a unique style of their own. They were also the only three assistants of his who became photographers in their own right. You’ll see original work from each of the three plus, incredible behind the scene shots of Helmut at work, handwritten notes and other rare memorabilia. For those who love fashion and photography, this is a must-see exhibit. The show will run through August 26th at the Williamson Gallery / Art Center College of Design.
