Weekend Recap: Food Fairs, Flea Markets & More!

Sometimes the stars align and the perfect weekend falls right in your lap. Saturday started with a fusion of happy taste buds and good works at the Los Angeles Taco Festival. Featuring Mariachi, arts and crafts, live music and the best taco trucks that Boyle Heights and East L.A. have to offer, it was a great start to 48 hours of freedom. Held every year and free to the public, the festival gathers community stakeholders to shine a light on the non-profit, Jovenes, a hands-on agency dedicated to eradicating youth homelessness. A cause made all the better by incredible carnitas. To see more pictures and to learn about Jovenes Inc, head to latacofestival.com.

Sunday saw us heading east to the sprawling Pasadena City College flea market. One of the largest markets in the southland, it takes place the first Sunday every month. Admission is free unlike its larger cousin at the Rose Bowl, and the wares a little more eclectic. Spreading out across the entire campus and even taking over levels of the parking garage, it’s the perfect place to treasure hunt. We enjoyed empanadas and icy sodas as we wandered by the Pasadena Humane Society’s booth for a little loving from the pups awaiting a new home. The day ended in Silver Lake, with us nomming on vegan cupcakes from Lark–delicious! What’d you do this weekend?
