Happy Birthday Elizabeth Taylor!

February 28, 2013 By: fohblogcreative Category: Celebrity Style, Fashion & Beauty

Born today in 1932, Elizabeth Taylor remains one of the most legendary stars of the silver screen. She was renowned for her beauty, iconic films and incredible charitable acts–even her tempestuous love affair with Richard Burton (and all eight marriages) couldn’t dampen the fervor.

We here at Frederick’s of Hollywood are a part of the crowd that adore her (and her legendary style). She loved to flaunt diamonds, dazzle in sequins and her costumes were some of the most intricate and beautiful we’ve ever seen. You can imagine our excitement when we found her hoop skirt from the 1957 film Raintree County in our archives!

Part of the nomination for an Academy Award, the hoop skirt is a piece of history and some of the most iconic stills were shot while she was wearing it–and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share a piece of the legacy with you. The violet-eyed Oscar-winning actress was, and is still an inspiration to us all! Happy birthday, Elizabeth Taylor.

Between the glory that is New York Fashion Week and Karl Lagerfeld’s birthday, we at Frederick’s are feeling very inspired. Here’s a round-up of our favorite images this week (Zac Posen, swoon) including Lagerfeld’s iconic style, Choupette and the easy way to incorporate jet set into your everyday style via Vera Wang.

Meet Karl Lagerfeld and the most famous feline in fashion, Choupette. With two nannies and as many Ipads to keep her happy, she has the glamorous life that cats (and most people) can only dream of! Karl is of course wearing his signature black glasses, ponytail, and riding gloves, a look he’s adhered to since the early ’90s. See pictures of a young, very buff Karl here.

Zac Posen took the spring by storm with retro, ladylike silhouettes, atomic prints and heavy bangs. The return of this ’60s-inspired look is definitely encouraging us to go through our closets and repurpose some of last year’s staples!

Forget hopping a plane! Vera Wang has brought the lush fabrics of India to you for spring. This is especially exciting given the rich colors and jewel-toned accents–you can definitely transition fall’s offerings into the next season. Win-win!

We know fall has just launched in stores around you, in fact we just put out the new version of our catalog here, but it’s never to early to start looking ahead!  What runway looks have had you swooning?

Happy birthday to the master of horror, psychological thrillers and the most anxiety inducing films. If you haven’t guessed yet, we’re talking about Alfred Hitchcock. Were he still alive, the legendary director would have been 113 today. In honor of the man who made birds terrifying and a son’s love of his mother suspect, here’s a round-up of our top five favorite movies:

And of course, we couldn’t let this day pass without posting the trailer for The Birds, but click at your own peril! As Mr. Hitchcock said, “the next scream you hear could be your own.
