Wedding Wednesday: Under-The-Dress Essentials

March 14, 2012 By: fohblogcreative Category: Fashion & Beauty, Uncategorized, Wedding Wednesday

Welcome to the second installment of our wedding series! In our first piece we talked about ensuring your style came through on the big day, and how to shop for the right shoes and accessories to achieve your perfect look. Today we’re going to talk about shapewear. Almost everyone has used it a time or ten to achieve the silhouette you want under your most form-fitting dress, but for your most special occasion, your regular shapewear just won’t do! The good news is, you have many styles to choose from when it comes to corsetry, bustiers, strapless bras and even hosiery. So much so, that it can begin to be a little overwhelming! Let’s talk about how to enhance your natural curves:

If your gown is strapless or has thin spaghetti-style straps, there are many options available to you. One is a simple strapless bra with great staying power, but you may want to go with a strapless corset instead–that way you have a sleek, smooth line from your bust to your hip. You can also eschew the corset route if you have a favorite bra already picked out or your gown features a lower back. A simple waist cincher can work as well, or if you are going super low or  backless, there are many convertible bras  that hook around the waist. Just make sure you try dancing  in your dress to ensure your straps don’t show!

If you’re looking for a little extra oomph, there are panties available with smooth foam padding that can add curves to certain areas you feel are lacking, and of course there are water bras, cotton and gel pads to provide a little more in the way of cleavage. The right silhouette is easy to achieve, it may just take some searching to find what works best for you. You’ve spent countless hours dreaming and searching for the perfect dress and the undergarments you choose will go a long way to make sure it (and you) look your best. It’s imperative to wear your foundation garments to the fittings to make sure they work with your gown and don’t cause it to gather or stretch in any untoward ways. Also, remember to not fret about the sexiness of your unmentionables—you’ll have plenty of time after the wedding to slip into your alluring lingerie. And perhaps most importantly, remember to relax! You’re going to look absolutely stunning and no one (especially not your new husband) will be able to take their eyes off you!

Wedding Wednesday: Accessories & Jewelry

March 08, 2012 By: fohblogcreative Category: Wedding Wednesday

Welcome to the first installment of our wedding series! We’re going to be offering tips for brides-to-be, DIY ideas, picking out the perfect shapewear and of course, what to wear on the honeymoon. Today we’re going to explore how to showcase your unique style through accessories. Once you’ve picked out your dress it’s time to start thinking of the accents to make your look complete. Whether you are going the more traditional route and want to stick with something simple or if you want a little more glitz, Frederick’s has amazing options starting well below $50.

One of the hot bridal trends for 2012 is a touch of glitter. Adding a pair of sparkling shoes can be a glamorous addition to a classic gown—and it’s the perfect way to give a nod to contemporary style without losing the timeless appeal. Another big trend seen at trade shows this year is the return of red-carpet worthy jewels. If your dress is relatively unembellished, use it as an opportunity don a pair shoulder grazing rhinestone earrings or go bolder with a statement-making necklace. If you’ve picked a Full-Skirt or a Princess gown with lots of detailing, keep it simple with a sparkling anklet or cocktail ring.

The key here is to find a way to incorporate you + fashion-forward aspects without completely overwhelming the look. A helpful way to ensure that doesn’t happen is to ask yourself—would I wear this again? Imagine your shoes or jewelry with a pair of jeans or fancy little cocktail dress—are they your style? It’s a great way to avoid falling into the pitfall of buying items simply because you feel you must. Being true to what you love when you buy and the confidence you feel will shine forth on your big day.
